What is the UPFA Association?
The Utah Professional Fire Administrators Association is a professional organization dedicated to providing support, resources, and networking opportunities for administrative staff within the fire service. Our mission is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and careers of fire administrative professionals through training, advocacy, and collaboration.
Who should join the association?
Membership is open to all administrative personnel in the fire service, including administrative assistants, executive assistants, office managers, and anyone who plays a support role in fire department administration. We encourage both aspiring and experienced professionals to join and contribute to our growing community.
How are the association's goals and initiatives determined?
Our goals are driven by the needs of our members and the departments we serve. We will regularly survey our members and hold open forums to ensure that our programs, resources, and advocacy efforts directly address the challenges and priorities of fire administrative professionals.
How do I become a member?
You can easily become a member by visiting our website's membership page and completing the online application. After you submit your application, our team will review it, and you'll receive a confirmation email with details on how to activate your membership and access all member benefits.
Interim Board Member Screening & Selection Process

Board positions will require a minimum of 2 hours per month to attend the monthly board meeting. Most meetings will be held virtually, and there may be a minimum of three in-person meetings throughout the year. Time commitments for certain positions may require 1-2 hours per week, on average. Some weeks may not require any time, and other weeks may be more demanding (i.e. time leading up to the conference)
Submission Requirements: Interested candidates submit a standard package (e.g., a brief letter of intent, a résumé/CV, and a letter of recommendation from your Chief) to the UPFA Board via exexboard@upfaa.com
Interest Deadlines: The application window is open for all positions beginning September 24th. Interest packages will be accepted up until October 22, 2026.

Membership Status Check: Al applicants wi l be screened by the current UPFA board members to ensure they meet the core eligibility criteria defined in UPFA bylaws.
Conflict of Interest Review: Candidates may be screened for any unresolved conflicts of interest with the association's mission or department relationships.

Selection Process: After the board has reviewed the interest packages, a standardized rubric will be used to evaluate applicants based on relevant experience, leadership capability, and area of expertise and to rank qualified candidates.
Interviews: Top-ranked candidates will be invited to interview with the UPFA board no later than the November UPFA board meeting, scheduled for November 12th, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

Formal Board Vote: The current board votes to formally ratify the interim appointments (typically via simple majority, per standard parliamentary procedure).

Candidate Notification: Selected candidates will be notified by board member(s) directly before the board sends an official announcement to the general membership.
Onboarding & Orientation: New board members will be given and familiarized with the association bylaws, board roster, strategic plan, recent financial statements, and meeting schedules.
The new board members' inaugural meeting is scheduled for December 10th, 2026, in person at the Orem Fire Department, 56 N State Street, EOC Room.
Treasurer
An Association Finance Officer serves as the board member responsible for overseeing the organization's fiscal health, reporting, and compliance.
Secretary
Serves as the primary custodian of records and official documentation, ensuring board actions are legally compliant, properly documented, and effectively communicated.
